Running Update

Thanks everyone for your great running tips and your encouragement! Shadow the Dog and I have been able to run at least once a day on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Sometimes we get out again in the afternoon. Right now we are running sprints throughout our approxamintly 30 minute walk. Today's morning run/jog/walk was 7:10 minutes of jogging, moving on up.While at the Outlet Mall with Audrey, we selected this pair of Adidas Running Shoes. After reading a book about running I learned that I am a supernator (sp?) and have a high arch in my foot, which if I really examined my foot I could have guessed. I don't really like the Blue/Silver/White combo, I tottally wanted Black & Pink but these sneakers were a steal at $25 so thats what I got. I've also picked up a Target Brand Coldgear shirt for only 5 bucks, which is nice since it continues to be in the mid 40's and rainy.

I occasionally find good running gear, new with tags, at thrift and consignment shops. You can also get good deals online and at race expos. If there is a marathon in your area, or a big triathlon event, check if they're having an expo. Anyone can go - you don't have to be registered for the race.

Maybe I can't run because I don't have the proper outfits! Yeah....that's it!

Outfits mean a lot! And - great progress!

Here is the good/bad news from the Pacific NW advice club! If you keep up what you are doing, you will be able, after maybe 2 or 3 months, to run maybe 3 or 4 miles at a clip of 8 1/2 - 9 minutes per mile! (Assuming you do this before you are 65.) Then, if you want to keep that up, it would be good to go to a top-notch running shoe store and have them really analyze your feet for the right type of shoe. I think you'll stay more comfortable and injury free that way.

I have often read that chugging along for about 20 -30 minute three times a week, where you really are breathing hard enough that you don't want to talk, well that is one of the best things you can ever do for your short term and long term health.

Thank you for listening. (What's for dinner?)

I agree with RG about having your gait analyzed at a running store one day when the mileage increases further.

And you have learned an important lesson all runners learn at some point: You can't always have running shoes in cute colors. Sometimes the ugliest ones work the best. Sad but true.

Yours are not ugly, though!!
