Grocery Shopping

This is my fridge and freezer. I'm going to talk about them today because last night after grocery shopping Hef's dad said to me, "Ya know for 125 dollars worth of groceries, the fridge doesn't look very full,". So I'm curious, if you'd like to share with me, what do you spend on groceries and for how many? Hef's dad and I go every week. I want to point out that our 125 dollar total includes 4 strip steaks, a 30 pack of beer, and a 18lb bag of dog chow. I didn't it was that much to spend. I also had to go back and get a coupon adjustment because the cashier decided just to make up prices for 3 of my free item coupons.
Then I cam home and made grilled chicken fajitas from my ATK cookbook, they were very good, but we tried to eat outside and it was too cold so we ate one fajita inside and one outside.

Considering the beer and dog food, I think what you spent is fantastic!I usually spend around $140 for 3 of us, and I don't buy my dog food or beer there, and your fridge& freezer look very full to me;)

Caution, this is being posted by a person w/ OCD & looks forward to double coupon grocery days: Your fridge & freezer look very full, but could be organized better so you can actually see what you have. I usually spend around $15 a week, but I live alone and don't buy alcohol. When I factor in bunny food & litter though, it can get up to $30-$40 every other week. I usually only buy items on sale and with a coupon (yes, it's possible) on days I can double my coupon so I spend less than $1 an item. So basically, I spend more on rabbit food lol.

Oh, I wish I was only spending $125 a week on groceries--our 3-person, 1-rabbit household spends twice that on average. That doesn't even count the stuff hubby buys for himself!

We spend that much easily, without buying meat, beer or dog food. We shop the pricier organic food places, though, so it adds up fast.

I think you did great personally. I spend that much with no meat or wine. Like bunnygirl, I buy a lot of organic stuff.

I'm lucky I live in the middle of farmland.. so hay is free ("The wild rabbits eat more than Sage ever could"), the kids pick her treats ("I got clover and dandelions for your bunny!") and she LOVES the generic, sold in 40lb bags of local made bunny food.

I spend between $60 and $75 per month at the grocery store. Shampoo + Conditioner typically lasts me two months, toothpaste five, so there's varience. But I eat *a lot* of rice and dry foods in general.

Digestive issues means I can't have *any* transfat and minimal other fat, so that's probably keeping my budget down.

Maybe I should post a pic of my fridge to give H's D something to complain about ;)

I spend more on bun food than on hoomin food and it's much better quality ...

I think you did great. We spend that much for two adults and two teenagers before bun veggies/hay for six bunz and dog food for two dogs...

"I love grocery shopping and I recently purchased Cook'n Recipe Organizerwhich has made meal planning and grocery shopping so much easier. I just input a recipe into the program, and Cook'n can generate a shopping list for me.

Grocery shop? What's that?

I'm busy working 3 jobs and endlessly patching the cardboard roof to keep this One French-cook and 10-bunny household alive!

Could I just come and live in that fridge?

I don't buy groceries either. I refuse. It's too expensive, and we generally only eat maybe half, because I'm just not a good grocery shopper.

I think you did well, though. I spend between $8-$15 on greens for the buns alone every 5-7 days.

I also don't buy groceries because it doesn't seem very cost effective. We can order from a nice restaurant for the same or lesser price, and have it ready faster.

Here's an example: If Jon decides to cook, it's not uncommon for him to spend $40 on the materials. $40 for dinner for TWO for one night?! Crazy. I should point out that we're in Manhattan, though, so everything is ridiculously priced.

Lorna, I'm so jealous.
