Resting up for the big weekend!

Hef is resting up before Easter, and his big party!
Also Audrey will sadly be moving to her next destination soon and went to book her trip, however we realized we don't know what her next destination is! So who is it?

Hef's getting desperate as Spring comes

"Are you a doe lamp or a buck lamp?" Hef says. "Because you really glow," Oh goodness! So Hef's dad as been heard talking does again, however he wants a flemish giant. I just don't know about that. Hef is a Netherland Dwarf weighing around 3lbs, with his carrots. Is it really safe to put Hef with a 20lb+ doe? Also how do you keep a rabbit that big in a cage? I don't think you can. So my first step is to figure out if its safe for Hef and to set him up with a cage expansion like Boogey, Gus, and Betsy have. I can't wait to hear the great advice everybun has.

This one's for Shell!

So we heard (ok Shell told us) that yesterday was her birthday, so I had a special dinner, not that it photgraphed well. So I'll just tell you about it. I guess it would be a veggie slaw burger. I made it with Boca Burgers and a bag of broccoli slaw, sauced with a mix of homemade Julia Child mayo, and cider vinegar. I also crumbled some blue cheese on top. So Shell if you don't eat cheese then just leave that out.
Hef's dad had the broccoli slaw, and had seconds! Also he grilled Tilapia Fillets on a plank. It just might be the last meal cooked on our hibachi/grill, as we keep leaving it out in the rain and its rusted through. Don't be sad, now Hef's dad wants to get one of the big barrel smoker types.

Into the Garden

So last weekend it was actually nice and we had company and all of us, including Hef, sat out on the back deck taking in the sunshine. Little Heffy got sick of the sunshine and started burrowing into my elbow to hide his face, so cute. I wandered around my garden while Hef had some grasses and was pleasently surprised. In case noone remembers this is my less then a dollar hardy mum arrangement, rescued from underwatering at the store. It has started to come back already. I keep meaning to look up if I should trim off all the old stuff but I forget so if someone knows, please share.
These are green onions, they had started sprouting last year, but then disappeared, I thought they were devoured by the wild buns and moved on but here they are!
This is the biggest green onion which is a bit aways from the rest oddly enough. Behind it is our strawboogie plant. I didn't know they came back, how  fun! Hef's dad wants to get a tiller and give Hef a real garden to play in, hopefully he follows through!

Running Update

Thanks everyone for your great running tips and your encouragement! Shadow the Dog and I have been able to run at least once a day on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Sometimes we get out again in the afternoon. Right now we are running sprints throughout our approxamintly 30 minute walk. Today's morning run/jog/walk was 7:10 minutes of jogging, moving on up.While at the Outlet Mall with Audrey, we selected this pair of Adidas Running Shoes. After reading a book about running I learned that I am a supernator (sp?) and have a high arch in my foot, which if I really examined my foot I could have guessed. I don't really like the Blue/Silver/White combo, I tottally wanted Black & Pink but these sneakers were a steal at $25 so thats what I got. I've also picked up a Target Brand Coldgear shirt for only 5 bucks, which is nice since it continues to be in the mid 40's and rainy.

Outlet Shopping!

So Audrey and I did what most women like to do on vacation, outlet shopping! As we have surely said we are very close to Niagara Falls, NY which has a very nice outlet mall. It includes my favorite store, The Coach Factory Outlet. Audrey and I selected a nice scarf then decided to have some fun and swap scarves! I would have taken pictures of our pretty mall but security frowns on that.
Also we scored a very pretty bunny knock off Sadek Lamp at the thrift store. It was marked as-is but I plugged it in and it worked right away. He doesn't have a permanent location right now. We didn't like the bulb it came with, an oversized candelabra bulb, so we tried this LED and it wasn't very warm. It matches the furniture in the living room but is traditional like the fireplace room so we'll see.
Ain't that a cute face?

Spring time Love

See here? Its a blue jay so we know spring is coming even if the temperature is back to the forties! Shadow and I are up to running 7 minutes on our walk!
At our house we get a lot of free samples and such from a blog we follow that tips us off on where to sign up but we try not to let free things sway us and put them up here. This product wasn't free (5 dollars after a mail in rebate though) but man its good. I personally had been laying off the drinks to cut calories until I picked up this beauty. Bunweiser Select 55. Just 55 calories for the whole can! Personally my max is 2-3 cans in a night. Usually thats 140 calories a can or so but with this we are getting our whole nights worth for about the same calories. Its a big party in the bunny lounge again!

Just what I want to see out my kitchen window!

So everyone likes to look out their kitchen window, see their significant other and some flames right? I know it looks bad but really Hef's dad is grilling. Grilling nice porterhouse steaks. I should have taken a picture but steaks don't last long around here between Hef's dad and Shadow the Dog. I hope everyone else has had nice weather like we have lately. Most days this week we pushed 60. Spring is coming, YAY!

Happy St. Patty!

What's the best part of St. Pattys's? 39 cent cabbage!
And yes I know Hef shouldn't have cabbage, he didn't. Which is my problem with Peter Rabbit, why is he always trying to get to the cabbage patch?
Hef curious bun that he is did tear a leaf here but didn't eat it. He's working on dying beer green now.
We are serving corned beef and cabbage for dinner of course.

New Furniture!

So with Hef's Dad has recieved his tax return with the homebuyer credit and we had access to the u-haul over the weekend we picked up a set of tables and a bookcase. Since Hef isn't allowed on them, Audrey offered to pose. Of Course Shadow the Dog stuck her snoot in too. Heres the sofa table.
And the end table:
The cocktail table is really the coolest piece. Why?
Because it turns!
And the bookcase went in the formal fireplace room:
Thanks Hef's Dad, house looks great!

Not the Best Monday! But we'll try to have fun anyhow.

So we didn't set our clocks back on Saturday so we lost our hour of sleep last night instead. Needless to say I am tired. We had a crazy weekend, Friday night we went out and Hef's dad had forgotten his wallet. So we drove back home then went out to a late dinner and then out to the walmart. It was a late night. Then on Saturday we had to help Hef's aunt move, another late night. On Sunday we kept getting confused about the time and then we lost an hour. It just one of those days when you wake up sore and tired.
Moving on to better things, yesterday, Sunday March 14th was Shadow's Gotcha 1 year Anniversary. This picture is from the day we brought her home but she looks the same and does the same things.
In other news RoadBunner tagged us, so now we have to come up with seven random things about us and tag someone else. I'm going to tag Mrs. Shell May of the Raspberry Rabbits. Ok let's see if I'm awake enough to come up with 7 things about me.
1. First one is easy, I am at work having coffee before I start. My boss is mopping the floor, so heres an odd thing. My boss has the same name as my boyfriend and my boss's wife has the same name as me!
2. Like Roadbunner, I hate milk, but love cheese, sour cream, whipped cream, things like that.
3. I am OBSESSED with Gossip Girl the tv show for 15 year olds, and I love Chuck Bass! In my opinion Hef's Dad and I look like Blair and Chuck. Hef's dad thinks I act like Blair, but he hates the show and goes and hides upstairs when its on.
4. I have dyed my hair almost any color you can imagine. Blonde, red, black, one easter it was hot pink. Now its natural and has been for probably two years.
5. I read all the time. If I just watch tv without reading, I fall asleep. Mostly I read novels, but I also enjoy non-fiction. I hate mysteries.
6. When I was a kid, I never wanted to play outside or go to parks. Hef's dad has always been someone who tans. Since laying out at his parent's pool, I have become obsessed with the sunshine and feeling it on my face.
7. At home I mop and take out the trash and vaccum and do the cooking. At work its a joke if I volunteer to take out the trash, sweep or mop. I don't cook the meat or make the sandwiches either.

So there are seven things about me that seem interesting at 9am on a Monday. Your turn, Shell.

The Last of Winter Boredom

Okay, so bare with us as we try to put a video on the new confusing blogger. Hef's dad and I helped Hef's uncle move into his house last saturday, so we brought one of those cartons of coffee from Tim Hortons and brought the leftovers home. Then Hef's dad took it apart, filled the bag back up with water and took it from there. We keep saying "lookout" not because there was someone below but we were quoting Miles in Sideways.

Forget Wendy's! Try this!

I spent a good hour making a really nice resume so that's all set. Let's get back to real food that people should actually eat. First up was a dinner I made, part Julia, part modern day. The chicken is coated with French's fried onions and baked, the recipe is on the French's website. Don't make extra, the coating goes to mush. The other is peas. Sugar snap peas cooked up in Julia Childs solution for frozen peas. MY GOODNESS! Hef's dad hates peas but when he came into the kitchen and saw the leftover peas he said "Oh, are those for my lunch tomorrow?" I said "No, I'm eating them now," Isn't eating leftovers out of the pot after dinner fun? So then Hef's dad was disappointed and said they were delicious.
'
Then on Sunday I made a crock pot soup called Zuppa Romana. It is italian sausage and zucchini and pepppers with bowtie pasta and a sprinkling of parmesan cheese. Very Good!
But we had a mishap! Hef's dad doesn't cook much or do much in the kitchen, but he likes to crush garlic. However on Sunday he crushed the garlic crusher! Tonight I am going to make more peas ala Julia, canned this time.
P.S. In Memory of poor little Pancakes we have started our easter decorating early.

ARGH!

Here I thought I could have a really nice post tonight. I waited from Friday to Monday to share my news, since Hef's dad said don't jinx it. So I waited. We thought we could come on here and share great news! Not so much!
"Uh theres no champagne here, somebody get this junk out of here,"
So let me explain. On Friday my boss asked me if I was really serious about becoming a manager. I said yes of course. He told me to bring in a resume monday and that he would "Set me up". Now silly me I took this to mean I had gotten the promotion. I come into work with my resume and am ready to go. Then my boss informs me ok I'll give so and so your resume and set up an interview. Where does that leave me? Back to square one! Of course it doesn't rule out being a manager but it certainly sets it back and makes me wonder if it will happen or not.
Friday night I had eagerly told Hef's Dad and my family and friends that I had been promoted. Hef's dad and I had some nice champagne and a good weekend thinking of the possablities. Now thats not the case. Phooey!

What's that your eating, Ma?

"Hi Mom! I see you have food! Care to share?"
What's Shadow so interested in? It's actually my breakfeast. I don't like eggs very much so I usually just eat lunch food for breakfeast. This is a dish I like a lot but Hef's dad thinks its weird. It's stir fried bacon, cabbage, and carrots. It tastes a lot like the filling in egg rolls which I love. I've decided to buy some of those wonton wrappers they sell and try and make egg rolls. I'll let you know!

Feeling Good

First off RG, you crack me up! Hef's Place! RG obviously if we had a restaurant it would be called "The Bunny Lounge" DUH! As for the Buffalo Bills eating bouef bourginon, that'd be nice but the Buffalo Bills kinda suck and I don't really like football. Hockey's cool, send in the Buffalo Sabres. (RYAN MILLER SILVER MEDALIST YEAH!) Yes I have dreamed of opening a hip bar and restaurant named The Bunny Lounge.
Anyway so our blog makes sense lets get on with explaining the title. Feeling Good is one of my favorite songs by Michael Buble (yeah some chick sang it on idol last week but she is not Michael Buble!). At The Bunny Lounge we are feeling good! Shadow the Dog has just been upped to a walk and a short jog everyday instead of a walk with a short sprint in it. Shadow the Dog says the Power Bones Shell sent will come in handy. Hef is excited as Dad keeps talking about does, but don't get your hopes up you never know with Hef's dad. Also Hef has his own blogger account now like the bunns do. I haven't told Hef yet but I am looking for a bigger cage for him as well. As for me? Like I said there is the possiblity of a promotion. Also I'm very pleased with how everybun has responded to my cooking. Getting emails about recipes outside of the blog comments really brightens my day. I mentioned Shadow the Dog going for a jog. Well my cardio stamina has always been a joke. Despite always being thin and tiny I can't run for very long or anything like that without chest pains or being short of breath. With Spring on its way (High 42 saturday YAY!) I am really committed to start running. (Tips Bunnygirl? RoadBunner?) Currently I can run to the stop sign at the end of our street or halfway up and back before just about passing out. I was at work yesterday and had achy calves and it felt good! I just wanted to get back outside and run instead of going to work. It keeps getting on my mind. It's almost running time now so we're out of here!
Carrot tops, Parsley, and a bell toy (which if you turn the blocks right spells Hef). Bunny is Feeling Good. To paraphrase Feeling Good by Michael Buble:
Bunny hopin' on by You know how I feel It's a new dawn It's a new day It's a new life For me And I'm feeling good

Maybe good news & an Olive Bunny

At Wendy's we have a summer contest sort of employee of the week thing and each store gets a team name. At my recent suggestion we are the Grand Island Rabbits! In other work news there is an opening for Shift Manager and I am "hinting" (read: really bugging) my boss about promoting me, keep your bun toes crossed about that.
In a bit of bun serendipty I was watching Jaques Pipen on PBS yesterday and he was doing decorations out of food. He made a delightful little bunny out of a black olive. Super simple to do so I tried immediately. All you do is cut a sliver off the bottom of your olive then cut a little triangle out of that for ears. Then you carefully make a slit in the front and put the ears in. When Hef's dad came home from work I showed it to him. he promptly ate it.

Just where is Audrey?

Well technically Audrey is enjoying some roasted Brussel Sprouts in the kitchen. Thanks for the sea salt Shell!
Grand Island is a for real island located in the Niagara River. The Niagara River splits around Grand Island and combines back into one at the other end. Below is the South Grand Island Bridges. The South Bridges go to Downtown Buffalo, where Hef's dad works. We of course also have North Bridges but they don't have the neat blue tops. The North Bridges go to Niagara Falls NY.
One of my favorite things about Grand Island is the Beaver Island Park & Beach, which is dog friendly! Shadow the Dog has walked the sand and splashed in the Niagara River. Shadow and I are lucky enough to live close enough to walk to the beach in the summer time, lovely. There is another special cool place to visit on Grand Island but I haven't been able to procure a picture yet so I can't tell you about that yet. Of course Audrey is quick to discover that the most hoppening place on the island is of course The Bunny Lounge!

Cookin'

Ok I don't know if a salad qualifies as cooking but I toasted some french bread in the oven so it should! On Feb. 13th at our Valentine's Dinner I ordered a Beet and Goat Cheese Salad. It was delicious so I figured I could replicate it at home. I used a bag of spring mix, canned sliced beets, and goat cheese with basil. At the restaurant they used a goat cheese rolled in herbs, but lacking a food proccessor to get a nice minced herb I bought goat cheese with basil in it. Then I toasted up the french bread with a warm spread of goat cheese. I also made a lemon herb vinagrette to go on top. It was my first vinagrette I ever made, and it was yummy! Surprisingly easy too!
On Saturday I intended to make Baked Eggs in Ham Cups. I don't have a muffin tin, isn't that shocking? So I used the bowls I use for french onion soup. I got the recipe from a brunch book I checked out of the library in prep for Easter Brunch. Hef's dad was excited when he saw the Egg Cups on the cover of the book. I was a bit annoyed as I specifically picked out a nice round ham to get nice round slices. Instead the deli lady gave me broken bits from the display so I had to layer and twist them around. When I had first started this process before Hef's dad saw the cover photo, he walked in and said I don't want bacon! Thats how messy my ham slices were. Anyway two eggs went in each cup with mozzarella cubes and cherry tomatoes, bake til eggs are done, let cool and serve.
Tomorrow Audrey teaches us about Grand Island, NY!
